Crafted by Horii Shichimeien, a tea house with roots stretching back to the 1600s in Uji, Kyoto, Gyokuro Okunoyama is an exceptional single-origin tea grown in one of Uji’s original seven imperial tea gardens. Revered for its deep umami and elegant sweetness, this gyokuro exemplifies the height of traditional shade-grown tea cultivation.

The flavor is rich yet refined — a mellow umami greets the palate first, followed by a soft sweetness and minimal bitterness. Cultivated under straw covering to block sunlight before harvest, the leaves concentrate amino acids, creating that signature gyokuro umami richness.
