Horii Shichimeien, founded in 1879 in Uji, Kyoto, is one of Japan’s most prestigious tea producers, famous for cultivating the last of Uji’s original seven tea gardens, Oku no Yama, tended for over 600 years. Today, under sixth-generation owner Chotaro Horii, it remains a guardian of Uji’s tea heritage, blending history, innovation, and craftsmanship.
This is a singleorigin tea of the new variety "Narino," born from the "Okunoyama" tea plantation, which has been in operation since the Muromachi period.
This variety is characterised by its strong sweetness, and it has been proven to contain nearly twice the amount of theanine, the source of umami, compared to other matcha varieties. Its umami is so strong that it's said to be delicious on its own, even without sweets, and it has a rich aroma and flavor that's hard to find in other varieties.
