Horii Shichimeien, founded in 1879 in Uji, Kyoto, is one of Japan’s most prestigious tea producers, famous for cultivating the last of Uji’s original seven tea gardens, Oku no Yama, tended for over 600 years. Today, under sixth-generation owner Chotaro Horii, it remains a guardian of Uji’s tea heritage, blending history, innovation, and craftsmanship.

This is a single-origin tea of the new variety "Okunoyama," born from the "Okunoyama" tea plantation, which has been in operation since the Muromachi period.

It is characterized by its clean, easy to drink flavor and a strong umami taste.

How to Prepare

Sift 1–2 tsp of matcha into a bowl. Add 60–80 ml of hot water (80°C). Whisk in a zigzag motion until frothy. Enjoy it straight or add milk for a creamy matcha latte.

Tasting Notes

This matcha delivers a deep, elegant umami with a creamy, full-bodied texture. Its flavor is smooth and well-rounded, featuring soft vegetal notes, subtle sweetness, and a pleasant, refined bitterness.
