Horii Shichimeien, founded in 1879 in Uji, Kyoto, is one of Japan’s most prestigious tea producers, famous for cultivating the last of Uji’s original seven tea gardens, Oku no Yama, tended for over 600 years. Today, under sixth-generation owner Chotaro Horii, it remains a guardian of Uji’s tea heritage, blending history, innovation, and craftsmanship.
This is a single-origin "Asahi" variety grown in our "Okunoyama" and "Togawa" tea fields, which Horii Shichimeien manages, and which they also manufacture, process, and grind into matcha.
The "Asahi" variety is said to be the pinnacle of matcha, with excellent taste and aroma, and it ranks highly at competitions every year. The "Asahi" variety grown at Horii Shichimeien farm is named "Mumon" and has received rave reviews.
